Production according to customer specifications – hydraulic blocks and control blocks made from CNC precision-machined parts

The manufacture of hydraulic control blocks and housing parts according to customer specifications is one of the core competencies of Motrac Hydraulik GmbH in Willich. On modern 5-axis CNC machining centers, we produce hydraulic blocks made of aluminum, steel, and cast iron – from the individual part to the series – with consistently high dimensional accuracy and complete end-of-line testing for tightness and functionality. The decisive difference from a general contract manufacturer: We understand hydraulic systems from decades of in-house design experience and can not only process customer projects but also optimize the manufacturing process without passing on the customer’s drawing or know-how.

What does production according to customer specifications mean?

When placing an order following customer specifications, the customer provides the design documentation (drawing, CAD file, or sample). Motrac Hydraulik performs the machining based on these specifications. Ownership of the design remains entirely with the customer. This model is suitable for OEMs that wish to outsource their hydraulic block manufacturing, for companies with existing designs that are looking for a reliable manufacturing partner with hydraulic expertise, and for machine and plant builders that want to produce prototypes and small series economically and quickly.

Our manufacturing process: 7 steps from the drawing to the tested block

At Motrac, the production order following customer specifications undergoes a structured process that ensures quality and adherence to deadlines:

Selection criteria: What matters to a manufacturing partner when it comes to hydraulic blocks

The manufacturer's hydraulic expertise

A hydraulic block is not a generic milling component: channel geometries, bore diameters, thread types and seals are functionally critical. A manufacturer without a background in hydraulics can process the drawing, but cannot assess whether a bore intersection is flow-technically unfavorable, whether a thread has been incorrectly toleranced, or whether a channel cross section is too narrow for the intended volume flow. Motrac brings decades of in-house design experience – our experts will intervene before a defect enters the series.

The more process steps are located under one roof, the fewer interfaces there are where quality can be lost. At Motrac, sawing, milling, deburring, cleaning, assembling, and testing take place in a production flow – without external transport between machining steps, which risks contamination or damage.

Drawings and manufacturing data are used exclusively for the respective client. No disclosure to third parties takes place. For sensitive projects, we conclude separate confidentiality agreements upon request.

Economic production of finished parts does not have to start with high minimum quantities. We manufacture single pieces starting from 1 unit. For prototypes or spare parts, the cost per unit is correspondingly higher than for serial products without minimum order quantities, but are available without a minimum order quantity. As the series grows, we optimize the assembly strategies and the procurement of raw parts to achieve more economical unit prices.

We process aluminum (preferred ductile iron alloys EN AW-6082, EN AW-7075), steel (e.g. C45, 42CrMo4), gray cast iron and spheroidal cast iron parts. The machining range depends on the available machinery; for exceptional dimensions, please contact us directly.

Typical areas of application and types of orders

Orders for manufacturing based on customer specifications come from across the industry in the entire machine and plant construction sector. Common order types include serial deliveries for OEM customers who permanently outsource their control block manufacturing, prototypes and first samples for new machine generations, replacement parts for non-reproducible original parts on existing machines, and modifications where an existing block is adapted to a different material weight, a different nominal size, or a modified channel arrangement. Industries from which we regularly receive manufacturing orders include construction machinery, agriculture and forestry, marine technology, lifting and hoisting technology, recycling and waste disposal technology, and stationary machine construction.

Frequently asked questions about manufacturing based on customer specifications

What documents do you need for a quote?

For a reliable calculation, we require at least a fully detailed manufacturing drawing (PDF or DXF/DWG) with tolerance and surface specifications as well as the material description. Additionally, a CAD file (STEP or IGES) for programming and information regarding the desired quantity, batch size, and target delivery date is helpful. In the case of complex projects, we offer an initial consultation to jointly clarify the details.

Yes. All incoming documents are treated as confidential and used exclusively for the production of the relevant order. No disclosure to third parties takes place. Upon request, we enter into a separate non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before the project begins.

Yes. With an existing original part, we can create a manufacturing drawing based on measurements and, if necessary, using a 3D scan. Alternatively, we can manufacture it directly from a pattern. This option is useful for manufacturing replacement parts for older machines where no documentation is available anymore. The costs for custom measurements and programming are calculated separately.

In the case of serial orders, pre-series samples are fully tested before release to the customer for approval. In the ongoing series, spot checks are performed according to established testing plans. Control blocks with fitted valve technology are additionally tested for tightness and functionality on the hydraulic test bench. The test report is included in the delivery documentation.

Yes. We are used to taking on ongoing series from other manufacturers, even under time pressure. Typically, we first conduct a first-sample phase to validate our production against the customer’s specifications, before we move on to serial production. We coordinate the takeover and start-up so that there is no disruption to the customer’s supply chain.
